Charles Kurzman, Why is it so hard to find a suicide bomber these days?
I thought this was very poignant. It makes perfect sense that people are against attacks on civilians. I also find it amusing that the author writes about the difficulty of recruitment for terrorists…because I’m working on recruitment for our clinical trial. Perhaps they can try direct-mail marketing. ha.
Paul Krugman, Republicans Against Science
I find it amazing how being stupid, ignorant, and un-educated is glorified as exemplary Americanism.
I spoke too soon. The crickets are silent and there’s heavy rain once more. Sad face. I should just stay up with the hurricane.
Prompted by the house owner, went down to check on the sump pumps and condition of basement. There’s more leaking from the windows, but both pumps are still working, and power has’t gone out, thank goodness. Just now, I checked the hurricane tracking and the eye is just outside of Tom’s River, and the projected path looks like it’ll miss NYC too, but a hurricane is a huge storm so I expect more rain.
But…the rain has lightened up and I hear crickets going crazy. I’ll trust the insects. yay?
Some power outages starting…I went down to check the basement and saw water coming from a leaky window. Lifted the junction of an extension cord from the diesel generator so that nothing bad happens when the water reaches it. Stuck something in the doorway of that room in basement so that water doesn’t spread.
The yard is flooded but sump pumps are working, so yay? It’s a bad sign that power is starting to go out already though.

neelesh20 replied to your photo: Hurricane preparedness. Haha are you in Princeton or NY? :( In Princeton…anticipating power outage.
